Children

Children are often the silent victims of domestic violence. Homes affected by domestic violence are not safe, loving environments for children to grow, play and thrive in. Without intervention, the effects of domestic violence on children are long lasting. Yet, children are also resilient, and research shows that intervention by caring and supportive individuals can make the difference in a child's future.

While children are in our shelter, counselors work closely with parents to make sure that the children's needs are met. Wings of Hope Family Crisis Services' child advocate performs an initial evaluation and assessment of each child when s/he enters the shelter. Additionally, the child advocate does safety planning, provides court advocacy and assists the mother in finding permanent daycare if needed and/or enrolling her children in school.
